hey guys, currently paying £40 a month on virgin for the following:
- up to 20mb broadband - calls unlimited - free tv box (obviously not using it )been scouting for deals for my mum, and come across the following which is tempting me so much to get for myself.. o2 broadband package £20.00 per month & 2 months free! (12 month contract) - up to 8MB (probably hit around 3mb) - calls unlimited - no tv box (not needed due to dogey box) or for me o2 broaband package £22.50 per month & 2 months free (12 month contract) - up to 20mb (probably around 8mb) - calls unlimited - free wireless router (not that i need it, but its there as new customer) ----- Now what i need to know is: 1) Anyone ever had o2 broadband? if so, whats the experience like speed wise, reliability etc. 2) Is this too good to be true? (seems cheap to me..) ----- Obviously im on about the package with the "New" phoneline which is coming into the pipeline next month on the o2 company. As we need a BT Line if the O2 phone line isnt took out (which costs more) Therfore the packages above is what im going to get... Just need the blanks filling in! thanks if anyone knows anything! MIKE

There are two flavours of O2 - make sure your exchange is LLU enabled for O2/Be and you will be very happy. If it is the Access package then look elsewhere. If you do not know, check at SamKnows
I have been with O2 for about 11 months now and really rate them as being the best ISP. My service has been 100%, and if they plan any maintenance you are sent an sms to advise etc. Customer service is in UK and on an 0800 number. The only time I used them was to request a downgrade...... If you go for a faster speed (greater than 8Mbps) and find that you cant get it, they will happily downgrade and refund. In my case I was able to get about 9.2M on my line (wanted 20M) so downgraded without any hassle. The LLU service is adsl2+ and if you can get 9.2M then downgradeto 8M, you will get 8M ![]() As for 'throughput', O2 do not limit and as I use voip, latency is low which is excellent. Most comments I have read say that heavy downloaders have had no letters so you can download as much as you wish - but think of the rest of us ;-) Sorry if this sounds like a plug for O2, it is just that I (and many others) are very happy with the service. If you sign up, register on topcashback, clear ALL cookies for O2 and then follow the link at topcashback for either £50,£75,£100 or upto £125 cashback and still get your 2 months free !!! When I registered, it cost me about £7 for the whole year !!! Also if you have an O2 mobile (PAYG or contract), you get £5 off your monthly bill so mine costs £7.50 per month - you need to top-up £10 every 3 months. After your first year, either re-negotiate a new discount for the following year or switch to "Be" which is the same network for a whole new deal. HTH |
