Well, it is that time of the year for Caravaners/Campers to pull the shed out, clean it up and get ready for the new season.
I have been reading about charging my Leisure Battery and found some interesting facts that seem very plausible. Leisure batteries are quite a bit different to standard automotive lead acid batteries, they are designed to take a near full discharge as would be required on a site if you don't have a hook up. Standard automotive lead acid batteries would take a hit of damage on a full discharge. Now, 12 volt automative electrics normally are rated at 13.7 volts max, due to this fact, the 12 volt electrics on a shed are rated at this max voltage. Because of this, the charger on a shed is rated at this voltage as it charges the battery and supplies the 12v equipment as required. However, leisure battery manufactures state that leisure batteries should be charged with 14.8V as this will prevent "memory" and ensure the capacity and life of a leisure battery. Batteries need to "gas" for a full charge, apparently leisure batteries don't fully gas unless 14.8V is applied Luckly, I have a digital bench PSU so just gave mine a manual 14.8V long charge, after a few hours static afterwards it dropped to just below 13.7V. Interesting to see if it improves or helps the life/capacity of my leisure battery. SS
