Hi there. I've just moved house and got vm installed. The house didn't have a cable connection previously, so the guy came round and drilled through the wall. I've only subscribed to broadband (not tv). When i plug the box in i don't even get the correct time displayed on the lcd. As far as i was aware the tv and internet feed would be sent as long as the connection to the house was 'live'. I know the box works as it was fine in my old house. My mates box is still working fine round the corner from me. I'm running C12 and it is able to update online ok. When i do a scan it can't find any transponders. I've tried it without a splitter on as well and still no joy. I've tried a reflash and a bruteforce scan. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. |

Yes- read through the C12 thread fully, and you'll see that Brute Force Scan didn't work in the release version.
You say it updates online OK, so is your version number now showing 12.1.2 on the top line of /var/etc/version.xml ?? If so, BF Scan should work for you! If not, Image Update online (or manually, with the update tarball and easy instructions in the C12 thread)- and set Bouquets Mode to 'New VM-Style), BF Scan- and 30 mins later, you should have your 12 FTA channels!! Cheers- AL

I always read as much as i can until i'm stuck for ages. Yep i'm on 12.1.2 and the bruteforce scan should work but it doesn't. I've never had it where the time isn't correct on the lcd. Makes me think that the tuner might be fucked. It was working before we moved house, but now not. I've only moved a couple of miles away and my mates box is still getting 'all' the chanels and he's about a mile away. I realise the signal could still be different for each of us. Any more ideas? Thanks again.

Yeah, I'll give that a try. He owes me one. As i set his up for him!
Do you reckon the feed should be 'fully live' for both broadband and tv seeing as we only signed up for broadband (which is working). It's a new install for VM and cable tv has never been fed to this house before. As far as I've gathered, it's the same feed for both, right? Under the brown cover on the outside of the wall there's what look like a hardcore splitter, what's that for? Also just before the modem there's an attenuator, do i need that? Never seen either of these before. The cable they ran up the side of the drive had 2 cables, one was the coax and the other looked like cat5, telephone or something, but was not terminated anywhere. I doubt the box is screwed as it was working fine and got transported pretty carefully. Any ideas if they're doing anything different with new installs? I'll try my mates as soon as i can though. Cheers guys. |

your asking questions that I have no knowledge of the answer, but I guess if its a new feed then the other end might not be enabled if you haven't paid for the subscription, vermin have gone to a lot of effort to stop freeloaders and secure their network and rightly so
