Default Email Viewer / OnScrn Alert?

Hi Guys,

Currently running Commando 12, with always-on network connection for live update goodness !

Does anyone know of a very basic email Viewer or client that would run on this? Dont need to write replies (tho would be cool for short "yep, got your mail" responces) - what I'm really looking for is something with a v.small footprint, that I could connect to my Gmail etc.

Watching TV, little onscreen alert on new mail (perhaps subj line, new mail count etc), with a view option.

How about on onScreen RSS viewer?

Cool options, seeing as my box has a live connection 24/7...

Not hopeful, but any ideas much apreciated!

Cheers

EDIT - Er, Oops, just found both of these on the forum! Knew I'd seen these somewhere! <Apologises for being' t'ick>

Hi guys,

Found the refs to TuxMail and TuxNews over on the Addons area - registered on the other site for downloads and setup.

Just wanted to get some feedback on these two...

1. Does anybody use them - AFAIR these are years old?
2. Are they stable? Im using TC12
3. Do they use shed-loads of memory?
4. Why do I never hear anything about them anymore - are they "old, crowbar it in if you can, might break it"?

Sound useful - I'd of thought more people would use them if they're any good?

BTW - Although I've reg'd on that site, I'm still waiting in the Mod queue before I can access the files.

Would someone mind PM'ing or posting the files to me, or is that a bit frowned on?

Default Alternative download links for tuxMail / TuxNews?
Hi guys,

Can someone post some alt links for tuxmail and tuxnews please?
Followed Pt1's/ Ren's post, but the files dont seem to be available on that site?

I've found the tuxWiki site, config looks easy enough - just need the files!

Hi mate, like your first post about the quick replies via remote.

I too wouldn't mind this option available as a plugin via Commando 12 (saves having the laptop on all of the time!)

Also, i do get my emails on my iphone, howevr i have them to receive hourly (to prolong battery life) - therfore would be better to have notifications (small ones bottom right of screen or something abit like the msn ones)

Now that would be fantastic!
If only i knew how to code lolol..

I am willing to test if someone is up for a task for an extra, dedicated online plugin for the commando image!

otherwise:
If you have some good results cy80rg please do post!

Hi Myksterx,

From what I can see, looks like TuxMail and TuxNews are just what you and I are looking for...

There's a sticky on this in the "Dbox Add ons" thread - FAQ with links from PT1 and Ren - but it looks like the files are hosted on a 3rd party forum (Havent named it here in case that's a bit naughty - but just check out that post).

I've found the TuxBox Wiki - it's in German, but the link below links to the Google Translator'ed page...

TuxBox Wiki in English

I've been following Commando since v6, and I believe I'm right in saying that TuxBox is the version of Linux this uses... as such, TuxMail and TuxNews appear to be standard plugins for that version of Linux.

My only concern is AFAIK this is years old, plus the other queries in my post above...

I'll see if my Account on that 3rd part site has been activated, if so, I'll post the files here. The TuxWiki Config doesnt look too hard (even in "G-english" ), but it'll make even more sence once I have the files!

I'll see if I can get Al to confirm if TC12 supports these plugins, over on the "proper" thread...

K - so I've now got the files for both TuxMail and TuxNews...

Installed TuxNews as per the Readme, CHMOD'd etc, rebooted, all was fine - no errors, restarts fine.

Only thing is, couldnt work out how to actually use / start TuxNews - there's no options for the plugin (either specifically or generic "plugins" nav), that I could find anyway.

Found the "Manual Add-Ons Install Menu (Blue -> Blue -> Yellow -> Green -> Yellow), which will auto-unpack *.tar.bz2 files found in /tmp.

Easy enough, but the tuxMail and tuxNews files I have are Zips...

Tried to use 7Zip to create the contents of the zip into a tar.bz2, but I'm also uncertain if the Manual Add-Ons function needs files in a specific structure etc to know how to unpack them...

I've included the rar of the TuxNews that I have... anyone else get this to work?
Attached Files - Who Downloaded?
File Type: rar tuxnews.rar (36.0 KB, 3 views)
