Commando 11 Laid Bare

Done in a bit of a rush- it's to help a geezer with a Nokia dBox2 with only 16MB of memory over on DWZ tomorrow for testing. But 'Netiquette' demands it's released here exclusively first, naturally!

As it's name suggests- don't expect too many bells and whistles, LOL! FTA, as always- you all know the rules by now...



With the usual 5 files here, and one (755) file there, this Image 'should' be running with 3MB Free- just the jobbie for a 16MB dBox, I hope!!

Password is: Fatty and Old Git (case sensitive)

With all the channel icons in my pack the "df" results are as so:


(includes "some other files" too, not just the channel icons)


Also I noticed that by default it's set to Start Radio channel 7 and Start TV Channel 37 in the zapit config menu. ^_^

EDIT: the /dev/mtdblock/2 has 4988 used and 2948 available, so 63% use with them "other" files taken out of it, leaving all the channel icons in there. ^_^

I don't think a 16mb box will have any spare memory resources for luxuries such as Channel Icons, AJ. So I just left a bare few in there, as 'proof of concept'.

But there's a much better way of handling the picons- which is partly what the current Survey is all about...

Someone with a 16mb box could always try having all the icons though and see how it runs. ^_^ Although probly be bettter to just pick and choose the icons they want based on what channels they usually watch. ^_^

Hmmm, as I suspected- dopey here used the wrong Boot Logo... Here's the correct one, which is 2kb smaller!

For the uninitiated, overwrite existing in /var/tuxbox/boot via FTP

have you tried testing the image for 16meg box compatibility by monitoring the memory usage with this command.

telnet#> top

i tried to tweak the settings but couldnt get memory usage to stay under the 16meg upper limit you were hoping for. it kept running up to about 18-20meg memory usage even without the 7day epg. i made an image to try a little optimization myself not long back to see how ultra-lite i could make it. with a few tweaks here and there and nownext epg only i managed to get the image ticking over at 15meg memory usage and peaking at about 15.5meg even with the usual 5 files here, and one (755) file there, so it should be just about possible but very tight to achieve for a commando11 16meg edition image.

I think what's needed for a true stripped image, Lraizer, is a special compile using all the 'omits' possible, as alluded to in rhabarber's upx post today?
