Also, a few other things, make sure you have "Terminal" installed
Applications->Accessories->Terminal If so, right click on it and create a Launcher on your desktop. Also, make sure you got gFTP installed Applications->Internet->gFTP Again, right click on it and create a Launcher on your desktop. Will make things a bit easier later, if not installed then again use synaptic.

Just to echo what other people have said:
On Ubuntu /bin/sh is a symlink to /bin/dash - by default. If you leave it like that then, from my experience, a build will fail. (because the scripts sort of refer to /bin/bash) You need to make /bin/sh link to /bin/bash instead. One way would be to enter in a console; Code:
sudo rm -f /bin/sh sudo ln -s /bin/bash /bin/sh ![]() You should be asked to enter your password. The first line removes the existing symlink /bin/sh. The second line would form a new symlink so that /bin/sh now points (is linked) to /bin/bash Another, potentialy easier way, would be to enter in a console; Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash when asked if you want sh to point to dash select NO. As far as packages are concerned I just install the ones from the Newmake for Dummies guide....but I have been caught out by not having Zlib installed.... so it's best to check you have it installed before starting a build. Hope this helps. |

Try "bzip2" and "gzip", you might have to scroll down a bit to find gzip after the search.
