If you're refering to the Sky channels, they already have placeholders and can be found with a scan here in Pure - I guess Al's got his work cut out making some channel icons

using pt-1 help file it has lost me anyone got a simple step by step
guide

Which bit are you stuck on? I found it a pretty steep learning curve at first just get any kind of flashable image......and i'm still struggling a year later!

Just need to amend the cvs "checkout" command. ( to get the newmake branch instead of the Head branch).
If you read it in conjunction with Nitr8 Guide you can see the difference in the commands.
If you're just starting I wouldn't get too concerned with the "Build scripts" at this stage - confused the hell out of me.
Just try a base image to get your confidence up!

Problem I found with nitr8's build scripts were that they were all enclosed in code boxes, and I couldn't find any method of Copy/Paste. Faced with the prospect of writing it all down then keying it all in manually, I chose the best option. I gave up!

Which is why I remain an image modder, rather than an image Creator, LOL!
