HOW TO CONNECT TO YOUR DBOX2 VIA WIRELESS ROUTER
NEWBIE GUIDE BY MYKSTERX What you need: Dbox2 (i tested this on a Nokia Dbox2 x2 AMD with Lacky Pro 1 loaded) Wireless router (i tested on a belkin54g) Normal ethernet cable (the one that you use from your modem to your router for the internet) Laptop (i tested on a vista laptop) CuteFTP 1: Go into your internet connections on your laptop. You want to disable all wired connections. You only want your WIRELESS connected to your router. a) Start menu then click "Control Panel" b) Click "Network and Sharing Center" c) On the left we want to click "Manage Network Connections" d) Right click and disable any "Local Area Connections" (I had "Local Area Connection" & "Local Area Connection 2") e) You should be left with just "Wireless Network Connection" 2: Turn your dbox on. Do the following: a) Press the dbox button b) Go to settings and press OK c) Go to Network and press OK d) You now want the following settings in the sections: Start Network on boot on DHCP off IP Address 192.168.x.x (I used 192.168.2.4, but yours may differ, please read carefully, this is the only bit YOU have to decide on) == Right guys, this is where your brain will have to come into it! i have a Belkin 54g router. When i go into my router which is 192.168.2.1, == I can view a "DHCP Client List", in simpler language, a list of what is connected to my router. On my setup i have a pc & laptop. (now a dbox aswell) == == My Router is 192.168.2.1 (i know that because thats how i configure it...) == My Pc is 192.168.2.2 (i know because it says "Mike-PC") == My Laptop is 192.168.2.3 (i know because it says "Mike-Laptop") == == As you can see, only the end digit changes, therefor i thought i would make my dbox IP follow on from these. so i changed mine to: == == My dbox is 192.168.2.4 (follows on and is simple) == == Now just fill in the rest of the dbox numbers.. Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Broadcast 192.168.2.255 Default Gateway DNS Server 192.168.2.1 Syncron via DVB NTP-Server de.pool.ntp.org NTP/DVB-Refr 30 3: We then want to back up your current image. Do the following: a) Press the dbox button b) Go to Service and press OK c) Go to Image upgrade/backup and press OK d) Go to Backup One Partition and press OK == i was using lacky pro, i had to: Go to Expert-functions, then Backup One Partition == e) It should now back up, wait untill it shows "the image was successfully saved under /tmp/mtd3.img" Your dbox is now setup & backed up. We want to connect to the router via ethernet cable now. 5: Before we install a FTP program, you should check to see if you have set it up successfuly. a) Open your web browsers (internet explorer/firefox etc) b) In the URL bar, type in the IP Address you set on your dbox network settings (mine being 192.168.2.4) c) If it loads up dbox yWeb, then you have set everything up sucessfully so far! carry on.. == If not, just have another read over, this guide should be very simple! == 4: Download and install cuteftp, then run it. Link: http://www.4shared.com/file/73734454...d08072008.html a) On the site manager dialog, Click New.. then FTP Site b) Label dbox2 c) Host Address 192.168.x.x (whatever you chose on your dbox settings, mine being 192.168.2.4) d) Username root e) Password dbox2 (sometimes it may be: dbox, dbox2 or commando, depending on what image, mine was dbox2) f) Login method normal g) Click connect h) You should be connected as you tested it in the web browser earlier and it connected fine. == if not, double check again, ensure everything is entered correctly == == another thing, if it asks for a port (it shouldnt do) just enter 21 == You should now be connected wirelessly to your dbox2! Information taken from ukcvs.org, the information was taken from "turner123" from his fantastic video tutorials and help from him via the forums! I must say at first i had some troubles as im new to dbox FTPing.. It took me a while to learn how to do it the Null Modem Cable way.. anyhow.. SPECIAL THANKS TO TURNER123 - HE PRODUCED THE VIDEO TUTS & MOST INFORMATION ON THIS ONE, CHEERS MATE! myksterx http://myksterx.4shared.com/
