Default [KERNEL] Samba Client (SMBFS) for 2.4.36.6-dbox2

Compiled for the latest kernel at this moment in time (2.4.36.6-dbox2), if you combine this file with smbmnt and smbmount (both CHMOD 775 in /bin or /var/bin) then you will be able to mount samba shares from NAS enclosures etc.

This is a ready-to-go module that can be dropped straight into any image with the right kernel version.

Place smbfs.o in /lib/tuxbox/modules/kernel/fs/smbfs
(you will need to create the smbfs directory)

You can then load the support by using modprobe smbfs at startup or insmod smbfs and rmmod smbfs for manual insertion and removal of SMBFS support.

This file takes up a whole 48KB - not too bad for an extra file system!

File Type: zip smbfs.o.zip (22.9 KB, 4 views)

Sorry m8 I haven't worked out a definate way of doing it in newmake yet - any change made seems to be overridden, even when using the --assume-old-kernelsources configure option.

I made this using the original method (old)make, which can be sped up by doing a make linuxkernel rather than waiting for a whole image to be compiled.

Thanks for this, i'll try adding it, as I am having huge problems with mounting a share on a NAS enclosure.

I'm suprised more images don't support SMB straight out of the box as CIFS just doesn't work for NAS enclosures, for me anyway!

Talk to these people to try to convince them to add it to their images

renwich - Commando images
Satsearching - SSEnigma images
lincsat - Lincsat images
PaphosAL - V+ / Virgin+ images
nj2006 - Njlworld images
gav12345 - Pacino and Laky images

I agree, it should be added to all images as we now know how to strip an image down to have loads of free space, so no excuse now.
