Default Chirping / Freezing channels

whats the best solution i have 2 boxes both c11 and one box is Chirping / Freezing on some channels ie bbc news in the day time freezes yet its fine in the evening.............is it just a case of finding a stable image for the box or am i waisting my time..........
will removing the modem help.....but read somewhere this only helps sagems (mine nokia).??..........
will an image with the bare bones help me
can the freezing be a tuner or memory problem
as the other box i use is fine

Have you tried using the chirping box in place of the non-chirping one to rule out the signal hook-up?

Also I find that using a signal booster, even an old one (at least 20 year old thing) can help with some chirpy channels. (I myself find chirping on some movie channels during the day, really need to replace the cable i'm running to it though, lol)

Also using a decent splitter where it splits off to the modem and then box(es) may help, best I've found online is -3.5db loss per split and cost a couple of quid on fleabay (think the one vm installed for me is -6db loss per split, back when it was on ntl years ago) ^_^

edit: 3.5db loss is only on the 2x split, more splits would have a bigger losses, though can have one connector at 3.5db loss while the other are something like 4+db loss each

Nokia? Yes! Remove the modem unit. Doing this a) improves cool airflow around the tuner can, which is right alongside the modem, and b) one thing less for the PSU to power, therefore less thermal output from the PSU!

Next step is to switch to one of the chirpy channels, then press Red then Blue and report back with your approx BER SNR SIG readings...

Cheers- AL

checked both boxes with same feed and good box is perfect
chirpy/freezing box results........BBC1 .first thing in the morning
no video
BER:262143
SNR:5399
SIG:36751
1 HOUR LATER
video but freezing
BER:139540
SNR:58082
SIG:38807

night time when i initially set it up the box was running ok........seems the longer the box is on the better it gets

that was 2 days ago.....
decided to remove modem
but when i turn it on no bbc1 channel available thought they might have moved it but still on good box.........anyway did a new scan and quite a few channels missing inc BBC1........
some how now the channels that had freezing etc r no longerr picked up in a scan..........tried more than 1 image..............
.......tried changing emu and ucode no luck

searched and read that a high BER relates to either poor cable/splitter OR COMBINATION , but the other box is ok so think that rules out the setup
good box readings took same time as the other box.
BER:190
SNR:61166 a little high but not affecting the box
SIG:43433

Just because you searched does not mean that it threw up the correct answer !!

Normally above 55000 SNR with as low as possible BER is the best combination.

good luck

good luck
i was talking about BER A sky-high BER is usually a case of crap cabling, splitter(s), loose antenna socket, or a combination of all three..........just stating this cant be the case as my other box's BER is low...

High BER means Jack Shite mate................just ask the sagem owners.................the SNR value is the most important.................we're looking for over 55000 for the picture to clear an any channel...........

All the best
