Post replace the tuner inside a dbox

ok, i see a lot of tuners on ebay, just tuners on their own looking like they've been ragged out of some kind of televisual box.

so, my question is this:

is it possible to replace the tuner inside a dbox with something else? something that supports HD perhaps?
