I've recently been given a Nokia DBox2 which came preloaded with an old (2005) image on it - not too sure about the name of it 'Neutrino'?. I've been using the box for a while now and I was wondering if updating the image to a newer one, such as the latest Commando image, would be a worthwhile exercise?
Has anyone got any advice as to which image would be a good start? What are things to look out for: features, picture quality, speed of operation, etc.? If I do update the image what do I need to back up to make sure that I don't end up with a box that doesn't receive any channels? Thanks in advance... |

I take it you have a connection to vermin.
If so flash it with commando 11.3 dont forget to transfer across the magic files for it to work on ALL channels this image is awesome and you will see the difference straight away in pic quality from the image you have on the box right now! if your box works at the moment then yes take a back up of the image and also of the service files too! |

Thanks for the reply.
'vermin'? Beardies tv company? I'm new to all r this and not used to the phrases! Is it quick and easy to load the image? I'm happy enough with Linux and FTP, just not sure about the things I should/shouldn't keep from the existing setup without knacking it!!! |

Going to give commando a go tonight (ooh err!!!) do I need to load the commando 11 image first and then the 11.3 image and then upgrade? Or can I just get the 11.3 image and upgrade to 11.3.7 directly? Cheers.

Commando 11.3 first. Then the current 11.3.10 (25 Nov 09) manual Upgrade (via FTP, then Telnet- see the readme.txt included in the package for the simple instructions).
After that, your Image and it's menu systems are ready for future manual or online Updates. All much more fun than watching the crap they dish out on telly, LOL!

How did you manage that? You have a Nokia box, which is definately 2x chipped, and all Commando image releases are 2x format! Did you convert the image to 1x format before flashing it?

Did the upgrade as per instructions and all was well except I was missing a few channels so I loaded my old image on to makesure I had copies of all the important files. Reflashed with the 11.3 image then, as I thought I knew what i was doing, put the 11.3.09 upgrade on but i hadn't restarted the box between the reflash and applying the upgrade. I think not rebooting the box has caused the problem.
I've searched the forum and have got an idea for getting ifa to work (tried to get ifa to work lastnight but it wouldn't and it was too late to mess around). |

Use Renny's IFA Portable 3.1 on here. Works 99.99% first time, using ethernet cable only! And ALWAYS reboot a dbox before flashing a new image...
