Does anyone actually realize that for ANY site to implement such a crass notion would involve ALL the Admin of that site going to prison, FFS?

My Dbox I’m afraid will become redundant after it’s been a trusty old servant for the last 6yrs…..kids will have to do with freeview….

If this is all about getting slys sports & movies on HD then bring it on, but they better exchange my 2nd subbed box for a HD box.
If this change happens and they don’t get all the HD channels within 6 months then I’ll be switching to satellite.

This change will happen as Nostradamus prophesised

Quatrains - Century VIII

97
At the end of the Var the great powers change;
near the bank three beautiful children are born.
Ruin to the people when they are of age;
in the country the kingdom is seen to grow and change more
.

great powers must be V*M, Tivo & Cisco.....

ps if I do switch to satellite and get the mother of all motorised dishes and it gets blasted to bits by a lightening bolt 21/12/2012 then I’m turning to religion and becoming a monk.
Cheers

I use my box (dm500 not a dbox2) for streaming from the pc to my tv so nothing will change here at all.

I would use a dbox2 for the same purpose

a DBOX2 like any other Enigma/neutrino based open source linux receiver is more than a STB. It can be used for streaming TV/radio to countries which cant receive english TV. it can be used as a Box to build Apps, Addons, and test files. It can also be used as a door stop.

I'll be getting the satellite dbox2 out of the loft and plugging the redundant Sky dish into it in the hope I can get a better selection of FTA; Virmin's isn't even up to terrestrial freeview standards. I've sourced a UK enigma satellite image to begin with. I'm hoping the config is similar enough that I can take the satellites.xml from that and bob it into the Commando11.3 image.

@satsearching: I'm pretty sure you're a sat dbox man? Can I do that? I have some time off work coming up so I'm hoping to get a few hours free to tinker around in the next few days.

edit: Well I've been playing around today. I got an enigma image up and running and am now using C11.3 on Astra28E. I'm guessing this is a combination of BSB and freesat transponders. There are a few more channels than Virmin but the majority of them are garbage. There are a couple more +1 channels, music and a kids channel or two.

edit2: FWIW I've noticed that an enigma scan yields a more complete set of results. Neutrino satellite scanning is pretty flakey generally. However, channel navigation in enigma is generally a pain in the ass. I'll do a bit more tinkering over the next few days.

yeah, the cable FTA channels are a bit disappointing but i find i download most films/tv shows i want to watch as i know have a fully functioning HD Media Centre built from a small form factor PC using media Browser : media browser - i may yet get a DVB-T card for it.

i don't miss the sports/movie channels so freeview is almost enough for me and i don't like the VM boxes, too slow, sluggish, unfriendly channel lists.

Interesting...

Are you saying that the Commando 11.3 image is quite happy on a Satellite dBox2 'out of the tin'? To improve it's Scanning capabilities, it might just be a case of fine-tuning the default German satellites.xml file, which is of unknown age and origin. And maybe the Scan settings themselves? H and V gobbledegook, etc...

Al,

Not straight out of the tin, no. I got the satellites.xml from the proboards enigma image and placed it next to the cables.xml softlink in /shared/tuxbox of the Commando image.

The Neutrino scanning interface isn't as intuitive as with enigma (even though it's my first taste of enigma) and it's possible I was doing something wrong, but the scan results weren't consistent. And a 'full' scan didn't unpack as many channels as the enigma scan. As you say, the satellites.xml may need a tweak to make it more Neutrino friendly. This morning I've moved back to enigma and taken an option to filter out encrypted channels
