Default New Toy

I ordered a clone DM800se a week ago, unfortunatley unknown to me the day I placed the order was a Chinese national Holiday (national Day) which lasts a week,

On Friday I got an email stating that my purchase would be shipped via DHL,

on the packing note it was collected at 21:21 Saturday night and I received it yesterday at 2:30, can't fault the delivery.

The ordering process was a bit strange, you go to the web site and request a quote, which is emailed to you, you then send a paypal payment and email them the Transaction ID with your shipping address.

It came through marked as a Motherboard Sample, valued at $37 on the paper work

The box was well packaged and all seemed well until I opened the inner box and took out the unit when I noticed a ominous rattle.

on further inspection the service port (mini USB) was detached for the main board

anyway I thought what the F*** I'll power it up and have a look to see what the box performed like anyway.

It boots up a lot quicker than the DM600 but not a patch on the DM500

the default image (all russian ) is very basic, but the sound was better than the 600 or 500, the picture quality is very impressive compared those boxes as well

then I made the mistake of doing an up date to a plugin which required a reboot,

on rebooting I got a GSOD ( green screen of death) then the box just looped.

having no service port I thought I was fooked, but remembered seeing a post advising you could flash via the web interface as with the DM600.

I powered up the box keeping the power button pressed, on the oled screen it said DHCP ####STOP####, again I thought it was game over, I looked at my DHCP leases and noticed a new entry with no hostname, I put this IP into a browser and hey presto it was the web interface, I was now able to flash successfully a new image.

To be continued......

how close did you look at the oled? just tested flashing via web interface and the dhcp address of the box was on the display in very small numbers after booting while pressing the front button.

got one from here via 10 day FEDEX delivery for £152

I got mine on aliexpress.com,from a company called yaoxcin,
but you have to make sure in the description it says sim2/sim210 and not ferrari,
you can either get it badged as a dreambox or specifically ask for an oem one, which comes badged as a sunray 800se,either one will do once its sim2/sim210
