Channel Icons for C14.4 Infobar

Thanks to Humforce's earlier work on renaming all the old dBox2 Channel Icons to the (then) Satellite channel names, we have now gone through his package with a fine tooth comb.

All the old cable-only channel icons have been stripped out, along with icons for now obsolete channels, like Bravo, Discovery Knowledge, Channel One etc.

A few icons are out of date, such as the 5* channel still carries its original Fiver named icon. But if anyone cares to make any new and/or updated icons, we'll be happy to include them in a further update.

In total, 180 channel icons are included in the package, but in addition, there are 48 symlinks for all the BBC and ITV1 regional variations. So in reality, 228 channel icons are in use.

Installation is a breeze- just FTP the attached update.zip installer to your /var/etc/ folder and then reboot the box. Voilá! Job done

Afterwards, if you view the /var/etc/icons folder via FTP, it will report the size of the contents as 523kb. This is misleading; according to our before / after tests, the actual net payload of this package is a mere 60kb thanks to Neutrino zlib compression on the JFFS2 (var) partition. So you can see that .raw graphic files are highly squashable!

As usual I have fannied about with the channels. Have installed the update.zip but still have some channels that dont pick up the picon. How can I reassign a picon ie bbc 1 scotland doesnt show the picon?

you need to change the bbc1 picon name to bbc 1 scotland exactly as it is in info bar { but that picon was preinstalled in 14.4

Is it possible that because i have installed sgtflipflop bouquet, the channels I have picons for are titled different?

Where are the picons located after the install?

Just noticed going through the channels, ones that have a picon come up on the screen as 23. FX or 4. channel 4. The ones that dont have picons come up as STV or BBC One Scotland.(this may just be the device putting the channel number onto the line as the picon is there.)

yes, channel names in flipflop do not match the picon channel names in /var/etc/picons. try doing a scan with the default "update" bouqets setting. this should leave your flipflop bouquets as they are, but update the channel names in the bouquets to the correct scan names that are used for the picons.

set it to leave current. { that is my test box }

Christ almighty, Humforce, you nearly gave me a heart attack there! Especially after we made such a big issue about this very point in the Radio Times EPG readme in the 14.4 release!

I've just done a Scan with the default Bouquet Mode > update setting active, and I'm very relieved to report that my bouquets structure remains exactly as it was prior to the scan, m8.

I think the single big 'All Channels' bouquet results from using either Bouquet mode > erase all or Bouquet mode > create new settings.

It's a brave man who tries to contradict LraiZer!

these early clones are as fussy as the sagem dbox. the type of image used.

nope its definitely "update" not "leave current" to reset the channel names to the default scan names. if you are getting just one list then, i dont think your flipflop e1 services are fully converted to commando neutrino!

before ftp'ing your converted sgtflipflop bouquets.xml and services.xml to commando image can you please make sure that sat in services.xml is changed to "Astra 28.2E" and dont ftp the flipflop satellites.xml either!

to leave interactive channels in bouquets you might want to also change action="add" to action="replace" in the myservices.xml or those channels will be moved from interactive bouquet to "other" bouquet after the update scan.

think it might be an idea for TC to make an update.zip for both current default services and for a flipflop services so that at least the default services can be added again if someone makes a mess of the ones in release image.

Here is the modded myservices.xml for C14.4 that LraiZer mentions above. The one in the release version was the test one that grabs Sky Interactives into your Bouquets to start with.

The release Bouquets (already having the Sky Interactive bouquet in there) should have had a slightly modded myservices.xml in order to ensure that the Sky Interactive bouquet survives subsequent Scans, doh...

As for trying to support SgtFlipFlop Sly services and buckets in Commando, all three of us have looked at these, and don't like 'em one little bit. Plus, they're not compatible with the correctly-named Channel Icons upgrade in this thread, either. Sounds like a hiding to nothing job to me, really...

But if anyonone wishes to revert quickly and easily to the 14.4 release services set, I'll be happy to oblige with an update.zip for that, no probs!
