is it possible to ftp to dreambox over internet

hi peeps a lot of my family and friends have the dreamboxes and usually i have to visit there houses to scan or update there channels what i would really like to do is ftp over the internet to sort out there settings and channels and do any problem solving without having to leave the house

is this possible ?

if it is can anyone help?

Yup

You need to port forward port 21 and port 80 to the dreambox local ip on the router at their house.

Then you need their ip (or set them up with a free dyndns account) so you can connect from home.

Make sure you change the dreambox default password!

Another solution is just setup a remote admin (like ultravnc) so you can control their pc from your end and use the ftp installed on their pooter (and web interface if required). You can then just send files to their pooter via ultravnc file transfer, then control ftp at their end.

thanks very much m8 i'll go for the port forward option then that way there comp disny need to be on. for years ive been visiting there house's around an already busy schedule and this would be very efficient and time saving.

just afew questions if you dont mind

do i just type in the dns name in internet explorer?
Would this take me to the web interface of the dreambox?

and how would i ftp to it would i just use the usual ftp program and type in the dns address instead of the usuall network ip?

Yes to both questions, their current ip OR free dyndns address.

Forward port 21 for ftp and 80 for web.

this method may be the easiest, but not the most secure, I would deffo make sure you change both the ftp and web passwords on the boxes, another way would to get access to the broadband router and only open the ports when you need them,

Or just use the remote admin way and only forward 1 port. The user at that end can start/shutdown the remote app when required.
