Default The benefits of going motorized

Rite then. Al asked me to start this thread. I'm not too good with words but I'll give it a go.

My set up is a Clone Dm800s hooked up a tehnomate 2600 motor and Technomate gold quad lnb. this moves my solid 80cm dish. I also have two other dreams - a dm500s in our new extension and a dm518s in the bedroom.
At the moment the dm800 drives the dish and is set up with 1w, 13e,19e and 28.2e. The other two dreams have to use whichever sat the dm800 choosen. Not really a problem as majority of time we watch 28.2.

Big benefits of being motorised is that many of the foreign sats show english content eg footie, boxing. So when I cant find something to watch on the 700 odd channels on 28.2e i've always got a few thousand more to go at. This comes in handy when (educationally) doing something I'm not allowed to talk about.

I think most people shy away from a motorised system as they think ita hard to set up. If you follow the numerous guides knocking around, its pretty easy. The main point is making your pole is perfectly vertical. From then its just a compas and a sat meter and the box will do the rest. You dont even need to worry about skew.
I suppose a downside is that your house is a bit like Del Boys when you're moving your dish

Hope this is ok Al? if theres anything else just let me know and I'll have another go.

Ok, thanks for the useful insight to the mystical world of diseqc and GOTO XX Phil!

So what happens when wifey and kids are half way through watching, say, a film on 28.2E in the extension, and you go and point the dish to 13E to watch foreign footy on the DM800?

Basically Al, I switch sats then I get shot by the mrs followed by an earful. Let's face it tho, the mrs would b sat infront if the main tv watching a soap most the time.

Ah- I thought so, a recipe for domestic disorder and potential divorce, LOL!

So, would a better setup, funds permitting of course, be to have a fixed dish for the main 'family' box downstairs (on 28.2E) - and then a motorized dish for one's testbox in the dev's closet wherever that may be be in the abode?

Peace and harmony, in other words.

Yeah i guess you'd b right there. Not sure I'd fancy another dustbin lid on the house though. Wish I had the time to tinker, at the mo, all work and no play is making Phil a dull boy
Maybe a bit cheeky, but I'd definately recommend a dm800 for a devs closet. They're in another league from a 500. Got mine for less than 145 snots so can't be bad.

I have motorised so she can watch all the West Ham matches live.
I get the fixed dish on 28.2 to play with

Makes for peace and harmony here.
