connecting my 500s

hi there,

recently bought a dm 500s off ebay which came pre loaded with commando 14.4 image. I am a bit stick trying to connect the box to my network i have the required software on my laptop using dream control centre, i am getting telnet login incorrect message, can any1 help many thanks.

telnet and ftp in Dreambox Control Center should connect ok using the default user name and passwords,
unless the person that installed the image on the box has changed it. make sure you allowed Dreambox Control Center in you firewall too.

user: root
pass: dreambox

check you have an active connection on box
menu > settings > network > test network now

you should see something like this
dbox: 192.168.?.? is reachable (ping)

you can enter this IP address in your web browser to check that it displays the box's web interface

From the 14.4 Readme

For Telnet access, you shouldn't be asked for a  password, coz it already trusts you. But FTP access is a bit more  suspicious... For FTP access, the user is root and the password is your first name, between 1 and 16 characters :)

Unless as above the trader you both it from has changed the password

Interesting point, if they have changed it, just reflash with image from here as it is a free image (unless it came bundled with something else?).

In which case, reflash it with the C14.4 image from here, via DreamUp?

But before you go ahead with that idea, read the waning that Satsearching just posted, LOL!

thanks for the response guys but soon after i posted my troubles the box decided to die on me lol. I have a constant green light on with no signal being transmitted to the tv, have contacted the ebay seller and should have a replacement soon. Dont know if i killed it or it was faulty lol.

I loaded your image and when i ftp to the box is says telnet incorrect. I have tried commando etc..

Also can i update the bouquets that are preloaded in the image ?

You need to read the readme that comes with the image or the release notes in the commando 14.4 image

you got your dreambox's from a wedding site? how odd
some previous commando images used the password: ukcvs.org

Hi

Just a thought If you are going to re flash an image onto the box

If using a sea lion use the tubox commando in blue button menu
To wright it down to put in new flashed image

Also you could Back up the image from the commando menu (then it can be reflashed if needed)

Then using ViewVar for dm500 backup images (windows tool)

You can find all the information needed for the newly flashed image
