Default flashing via the web

ive always gone this way to flash my 600

Important, You must know what IP address your DB will have, post flash erase. My DB always gets the same IP address from the router when I use DHCP. The IP is assigned based on MAC address, so never changes from image to image.
If someone else can, please chip in with a way of figuring out your IP address otherwise.

1: Turn on DHCP in the communications page and note down the IP address your DB was assigned.

2: Remove the power supply lead from the back of the DB, hold in the power/standby button, plug in the power supply again (While keeping the button pressed). Give it about 15 secs and flash should be erased.

It only actually takes about 10 secs, You will notice that the flashing pattern on the LEDs will have changed.

3: Open up your favorite web browser and type in the IP address you noted earlier. You will see a green page load. Click the link labeled 'upgrade firmware' (or similar) on the bottom left of the page. Browse to and select your the NFI image file on your PC. Click the button to proceed.

4: Once the flash progress meter has reached 100%, turn the DB off then on again.

That's it, You have a new image in flash.

Hope someone finds this useful

I am using telnet to erase the flash .

telnet dreambox-ip and the execute the following commands :

mount /boot -o remount,rw
rm /boot/*
reboot

This might be better than removing the power ..etc.

Dude... does this do the same ? Flash Complete ?

Clicking on the Flash action for mtd0 (dev) or complete (name) opens the message as in FlashPartition.jpg.

Read through the Commando 12 DM500S Image thread fully, m8. This will show you the safest way to reflash.

When replacing a 'fat' image with a super-slim one like our C12, it seems that DreamUP is NOT your best friend, as this doesn't erase the old image fully (like it claims it's doing)!!

But DreamUP is fine, if you use the alternative 7.75MB Flash w/o Bootloader C12 that Renny added to that post!

Cheers- AL

must have done a 100 flashes and ive never had any problems with dreamup 1.3.3.4 so far, for small root partition only images i just press the flash-erase button before i press the flash button to make sure the var partition is erased. worked everytime for me so far with flashing any size image, full back image or root only images that req to run the var_init process.

Same version as I use, LraiZer. But I've always been too scared to use the Flash Erase button, as it gives me an 'orrible-looking "Really Erase the bmon?" message, which I don't fully understand, so I cancel the op...

I'm frightened it's gonna take out the MTD2 OpenBIOS sector (Bootloader?) and render my box a book end.

i lke to live dangerously, that was the first button i pressed when i got my box. i press it first every time i flash with an image that is not a full size backup image to make sure that the old var partition is erased. dont need to press it on a full size backup image because the var partition will be overwriten anyway. "Really erase flash without Bmon?" translates to erase flash, but do not erase the bootloader. its even fine to press the flash-erase button and then turn box off with no image on box. dreamup will still connect to box at next power up.

right ok, now this thread helped me somewhat, although it doesnt actually answer my question really.

i need to flash this to my box via the web.

ie. through my router from my laptop.

reason being i dont have the time/tools anymore to mess around.

i used to do it via the wireless router on the dbox2 now when i try to open dreamup is says no comport detected so im screwed.

is there any way i can flash my DM500 S without having to mess with wires.

if not ill leave the pli jade on the box, i just prefer to use commando as ive stuck with it for years now.
