all credit to the Devilfish
If, for any reason, your box won't boot, you will have to use Dreamup to flash an image instead of Flash Wizard Pro or any other method. You won't be able to connect via ethernet so no ip address is required. It may be that the process simply hung up during flashing or you accidentally pulled the plug half way through (yes it did happen to me). This will get you back on track. Required

Being a totally novice with computers, I'm a wee bit lost, when i went into the device manager, it was showing the the usb to serial com port was 4, so when i opened dreamup, it was showing com port 3, now, i cannot get dreamup to work, so i thought that was maybe because that dreamup was showing port 3 and the usb to serial was showing com port 4, so i thought this was maybe the reason that i could not get dreamup to work, now Ive been back into the device manager and the usb to serial port is now showing port11, so why does it change port itself, anyway try`d dreamup again,[ which always shows port3 ]but nothing, but if i take to a computer with a serial com port, it will work no probs, so does the problem lye in the usb to serial lead that I'm using, and it just will not port ????? [ hope this makes sense guy`s ]

Humforce, seemingly it`s not that easy m8, as com port 3 is already in use, then if i try and change it to use with dream aswell, there will be a conflict of intrest. and i can`t make head or tails of LraiZer`s recommendations !!

The majority of USB-Serial adaptors will NOT work with DreamUP, just like they didn't work with IFA on dBox2.
This is because these adaptors don't support Serial devices using Interrupts (!RQ), like a serial mouse, for example. The problem with most modern laptops is that they have an RS232 serial connection, but this isn't to a 9 pin D socket that you can connect a null-modem cable to. It will be connected to the expansion slot for a docking station. Even though you're not plugged into a dock (which would have a 9 pin COM port), the system still sees that COM port as in use. The bottom line is that in your case, your cannot use DreamUP with that laptop / usb-serial adaptor, sorry. Cheers- AL

Yes, m8- we know that some usb-serial adaptors DO work on IFA and DreamUP, but I was saying that the majority do NOT!!
Cheers- AL
