Default Feasible Setup position

Sorry for the basic question guys but would this motorised set-up work at all? Basically the line of site for Astra runs parallel to the block of houses including mine, But as you go south and then around to west the dish will start to point towards the house.

Are you in the middle of a terrace of houses, Wiz- or do you have a gable end, where the dish could be mounted and peep over the roofline?

Or do you have a solid chimney stack you could mount it on?

Not end of terrace m8 so no gable end plus neighbour already has sky dish on chimney, but main point against height is I dont like it lol,

At least on the shed I can easily adjust it as its a concrete roof so good standing ground

You can pole mount it into your garden so it looks over the fence into the sky allowing all sats.. I will draw you a diagram tomorrow.

Also, have a look on here.

UkCvs.org - dishpointer

Put in your location, and the satellites you hope to pick up. Then write down the true Elevation and Azimuth.

Stand on your shed roof with a compass and inclinometer and try to sight where the satellites are and if buildings are in the way. If you don't have an inclinometer, you can improvise with a protractor, cotton and bluetack. Sounds daft but it works.

Ok, looked at this again, I think you are limited with elevation. As I look at your diagram your dish will be 15ft from the house, and 15 ft below the roofline. so if I draw a square 150 x 150 and then draw a line at 29' (I picked 29' as this is the elevation of Amos satellite @ 4.0'w) which in your location is about the highest sitting satellite).

So, a shortfall of 6.7 foot.

BUT, how far away is the apex point of your roof (which will be more than 15ft)?

Add this to the equation and try to mount the dish higher you may get a few more sats above your roof line?

But then again, Amos @4.0'W is more or less straight due south to you so the house distance is greater, best to try sighting with a compas and inclinometer m8.

If you get a Scoffolding pole, maybe 10 ft and put 3 foot underground the other 7 footu should get you high enough to clear most obstructions.
