Default Suggestions please

Hi guys looking for some good suggestions and advice!

I just got a system at a very reasonable price! comprising:

1.8m segmented dish
ground stand / polar mount
18" actuator
and a TM 5500 CIP

now I know the Tm isn't really supported any more but it does have the ability to move the dish built in!

So a new reciever is required! I have some good knowlege of to cable scene using linux boxes etc.

Does anyone know what the best box would be for my situation?
Not overly fussed about HD at the moment but might be later on!
would love the ability to blind search
and want the box to move the dish pref without needing a V-box!

However if you thing there is a better way then please advise

many thanks for your help

1.8m dish? what are you hoping to get?

Not many boxes these days support a propper actuator so you may have to look at a V-Box I'm affraid.

I'm not aware of a Linux box that does PROPPER, true blind scanning. I'd too be interested for comments about a linux box that can do a real blind scan though.

I bet your after horse racing feeds m8?

Hey Satsearching !

Not sure about what I can get, just saw the gear advertised and though wey hey why not LOL

an v-box is no problem really they're about £30 -£40 I think?? So if its necessary then so be it! pitty I can't et the TM to do it in conjunction with another box!

with regards Horse racing feeds (thye holy grail) of sports feeds, as I understand it Race tech have now gone 100% encrypted rather than the 40 - 50% they were 5 years back, though I'd laugh all the way to the bank if I could LOL but no I'm affraid I think its impossible to get the raw feeds these days!
However I understand there is a multitude of foreign sports broadcast that don't make it to sky or espn etc. So would love to get some foreign sports channels sorted, porn well, not really that bothered about it as every other internet site is a xxx site and if I want to watch some I just have to search for chicken breast!

The truth is I was looking at sat ages ago really for he nags feeds I think we spoke about it at another site 4-5 years ago??
but I would really just like to get out from under the grip of virgin and with BT rolling out its own fibre optics it seems the right time to go for it !

Also I suspect the start of the next footy season will be game over for dodgy cable! and with that the end of reasonabley priced sat equipment!

Feed hunting interests me really because I think it will be interesting to see what you can find! Norweigen news or russian Techno pop its all up in the air so to speak!

Anyway any assistance is appreciated on my quest and thanks again for the response!

Not so sure about the Icecrypt in all honesty.

Any Linux box is only as good as the unofficial support it gets as undoubtibly its 99% of the time going to be used for the more dodgy side of the sat scene.

Before buying any receiver its an idea to check out the forums and find out what the support is like for it. It doesn't matter how good the box is if there is no support for it.

The best boxs for support are undoubtly any receiver made by Dream Multimedia. Even the old 5600 is still getting good support these days.

I have had many linux boxes, all with varying support From Technomates, IPBOxs, and more Dreamboxes than i care to remember.

If using for the other thing its an idea to see what emu support the box has.

As for your dish, you should be able to get 26e easily on it. There are a few good bits and pieces that are free to air which you should get no problem at all with a 1.8m dish.

You may even get some of the stuff of 7w unless its one of those crappy Fortecstar abominations you have bought.
