Default Moving to Satellite after N3 on Dbox2 Takesover

Hi Guys, always good to comeback to a place you've received so much help in the past.

Anyway, started with a Lidl FTA package - FTA Receiver, 80cm dish as well as a Twin LNB, connected this, OK and got Astra 28.2* all OK.

Now that I have gotten my feet wet, and I like the water, am upgrading at a slow pace. I have ordered a Technomate TM-2300 Super DiSEqC Satellite Motor, to use with the Twin LNB, as I want to get channels on both Astar 28.2 as well as try and get some from Intelsat 903 at 34.5°W. As well as any others as time goes by.

Now my biggest decision is the Receiver. As guys may remember I had/have the ol trusty Dbox2. I liked what it could do. Was comfortable with this. And I liked that I didn't have to pay monthly fees.

But with changes lately am wondering which is better a Vu+ DUO HD, Dreambox or a Humax? I need a box with an internal HDD, I need to watch the HD channels as well as a PVR for recording. I here good things about the Humax Foxsat Freesat+ HD Recorder, that it's like SKY+ HD. But, i don know much about Dreambox.

Could you please advise me the pros and cons of each box, as well as which is better? Is there a Vu+ DUO HD , Dreambox with HD PVR capabilities? And is Vu+ DUO HD , Dreambox only used for card sharing, as am abit reluctant in subscribing to a server and paying monthly. Hence, why I liked DBOX2. As in the case of sports there are a number of Channels above there that I can tune into, or even by the cheaper sports packages that they do for Freesat customers.

Any ideas welcome, any help more than appreciated.
Let me know, and correct me where am wrong. As am new to the Satellite scene, as I was in the Dbox scene.

Vu+ DUO HD is a good all rounder and would be my choice,

dm800HD is a decent box but the VU+ will give you more bang for your book, personally I wouldnt buy a dm800 clone as the images you need to ensure you get one with the correct modded second stage bootlooder

not sure about the humax never used one

For around £200 the DM800 HD clone is a fabulous receiver, the image support is very good now aswell
Where about do you live? Because 34.5w is a bit of hit and miss, you need to have a clear line of sight and a 1m dish

Hey, RK- as I'm a Satellite noob, can I ask a dopey question, please?

Don't you need a clear line of sight for ANY satellite?

Hi, RK. am in Ireland just near Dublin in Kildare. Am getting the 28.2* just right. Now am thinking of being adventurous, and moving to more satellites.

The main thing, is the receiver, as I have a 80cm dish, with Twin LNB, and there is the Sky dish next to this, so I can tap into it, if the need arises. But, am still divided on Receiver Boxes, VU+ will do more or less like the DMBx. But, how different are they to any ordinary HD PVR receiver boxes, if anyone has had the joy of trying or seeing the 2 at play.

Al, you say your new to Satellite, what do you have/using and why that receiver?

I have two DM500S boxes, one downstairs to watch for an hour each evening, the other in the office upstairs for testing/dev. 85cm fixed dish with quad LNB, collecting 28.2E and (strangely) 19.2E

Not interested in HD, as SD pic quality is plenty good enough for me. Not interested in PVR, as I have a nice Toshiba DVDR/VCR/250gig hdd/USB/DVB-T combo box downstairs to record to.

Cheers- AL

There never will be any such thing as the 'perfect' box, m8, nor the 'perfect' image to run on it.

That's why I only spend a maximum of one hour a day actually watching the drivel they serve up for TV. The rest of the time is on the PC, tinkering with images, as this is far more fun and educational, LOL!
