Question Best HD Box?

Hello everyone,

I am thinking on buying a HD receiver but I am unsure on what to buy. What do you think is the best box for as cheap as possible and best overall (no need to look at price)?

Thanks.

So many things to consider.......

There are many cheap boxes on the market, most are closed firmware and you get what you pay for.

Here, we are interested in "Open Firmware" Linux boxes which can mean lots of guarenteed future firmware updates and support that can mean a box is kept up-to date for many years.

So, on one hand, there are cheap Pace, Humax etc etc HD boxes

On the other hand, slightly more expensive Dreambox, Coolstream, Azbox etc etc HD boxes.

Personally, I have a cupboard with defunct SD boxes made by Manhattan,
Force, Newwave etc. All defunct because the manufactures have dropped them.

Don't go by cheap price alone, consider future support, the Dbox2 is very old but look how it is still supported!

Granted, HD open firmware boxes are still in early stages and very new. But I would consider Dreambox or Coolstream or Azbox.

Sorry to ask such a direct question but this will help us decide which is the best receiver for you.

¬¬ What do you want your box to do for you? ¬¬

Cheers RK.

I would recommend the CubeRevo / DgStation 3000 HD -- as an alternative to Dreambox machines which are quite expensive. Very good box, runs stable, different firmware also available. Big advantage you can swap the tuners. I got this box for my parent some month ago.
Very nice design, easy to operate and definitely worth the money. Going to get sold start 220 EUR. ( 2 CI slots, 1 smartCard reader )

Cheers
Andy
