Default iPhone or T-Mobile G1?

Should I get an iPhone 3G now(I have att), or wait until I can get the G1 and switch service to t-mobile?
I'm mainly looking for a phone that has lots of software applications and media functionality.
Thanks.
Also, what apps are there for android?

Default iPhone or T-Mobile G1?
Definatly the G1. It features an "android Market". Android is software for mobile devices that includes an operating system and key applications. Google developed Android to work in combination with Google services, such as Gmail, and provide an enjoyable mobile Internet. Android is also open source, meaning that anyone can create programs for it and distribute them.

I'd still prefer the iPhone to the G1. Many reasons...
  • Looks : Don't particularly like the G1 looks... looks positively cheap
  • OS (Anderoid) : The Anderoid is Google's first foray into the market. Has lots of room for improvement. I'd give it about a year to get the OS nice and slick.
  • Don't like just the screen sliding to reveal the keyboard. I'd have preferred the entire facia to slide.
  • Doesn't do movies
  • Can't move music back to your PC once you've downloaded it to your phone.
  • Can't (yet) connect to Exchange Servers for work emails pushed out to you.
What I like about G1:
  • The fact that its got a real keyboard (hate that only a section of the front slides off to show it tho, instead of the whole front. Looks cheap.
  • Umm... that's about it .
If you folks have bought it yet, please give us a review.

Intrestingly... the open market is very open. This can be quite good, and bad. Good, because the innovative abilities are not tethered to any bank of approvers (as in the case of the iPhone wherein Apple approves the apps).

On the flip side, no monitoring means the users are open to hackers creating a great front app with an underlying scammer/skimmer. Then each time you login to your email/bank/facebook/etc, the app neatly sends your details off to the hackers site. Even if the hacker is able to fool 1% of the population, he's got enough info to pay for his expenses for the next year .

It's probably not as bad as I've made it out to be, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

I would also prefer the iphone as it has a much larger variety of apps to put on your phone and I think the layout of the iphone is better.

if your on about the ipod touch you need to "jailbreak" it. dead easy using a program called QuickPwn. it's a little daunting at first, but dont worry about it. and you can always restore using a reset thing within itunes to a non jailbroken system

Read up on the following links for information, downloads and tutorials.

iPhone Dev Team's Blog - QuickPwn/yellowSnow/PwnageTool/etc. Haven't seen a better place for tutorials yet.

iClarified - Tutorials for iPhone, iTouch, etc

Hope this helps. If you've got questions, raise them in a new thread and I'll do my best to answer them.
