Default New Satellite for the UK

There could be changes.......?

Astra 1N was finally launched on Saturday 6th August, it is intended to be located as a temporary measure at 28'E to serve the UK with a spot beam.

The interesting thing about a spot beam means that it's signal will be focused on the UK allowing certain broadcasters to transmit FTA, currently only Astra 2D at 28'E has spot beam allowing broadcasters to give the UK FTA.

As above though, 1N is a temp measure and in 2 years time it will move to 19'E to serve Germany, just before which, Astra 2E, 2F and 2G should hopefully be built and launched to serve the UK.

But interesting that this could allow broadcasters to transmit more FTA channels for the UK! But bad news for expats.

Below, the launch of Astra 1N (and BSAT-3c/JCSAT-110R) on board an Arian 5 rocket in Kourou
