Post Virgin touts higher broadband speeds

Virgin Media chief executive Neil Berkett has said that the cable operator's infrastructure will be capable of offering downstream broadband speeds of up to 150Mbps earlier than BT.
In an interview with BBC News, Berkett said that because Virgin already has a fibre-to-the-cabinet network, it will be able to offer a "much, much faster upstream speed, running at a minimum of 100Mbps downstream and possibly more" by the time BT had completed its fibre rollout in 2012.
The cable operator launched a 50Mbps service running on EuroDOCSIS 3 - a specification for the carrying of data over cable that allows channels to be bonded to offer progressively higher speeds - last December. It plans to migrate 10 and 20Mbps customers to the DOCSIS 3 platform in a move likened by chief technology officer Howard Watson as "adding lanes to the M25".
Watson has previously said that Virgin hopes to offer 200Mbps services by 2012
