Default Cordless voip ?

Any views on ip phones that are cordless? (requirement here for the phone to work when computer is off)

After some googling I found this

http://www.cordless-phones.uk.com/vo...et-c475ip-dect

Is this the sort of thing I should be looking at?

Siemens do make good but expensive phones.
My advice is to use an ordinary cordless phone and connect it to a PAP2. This is what I do and with cheap quad cordless packs of phones you can use voip anywhere in your home.

SatSearching- if you need to expand your Router for some more ports, I can send my surplus Netgear 4 Port Swich/Hub DS104 c/w psu up to you, m8. I ran my PAP2-NA through this from my old 4 Port router for a couple of years, before getting by current Netgear FVS318 8 port router.

Cheers- AL

But what about us UK guys - I know you have no problems with German but afraid for me its a challenge.

What would be a UK price?

They give them away for free in Germany when you take up a new Broadband Account but as usual Ebay is your friend.
The 7270 officially is a SIP Server but you can utilize the"old" Frizt!Box or the 7050 or all newer modells to run Asterisk..

I post some stuff for you guys tomorrow...

Professionally I would Recommend all Polycom Kirk Products ;-)

I would be interested in knowing about this too. I don't have a big budget as all spare money goes towards holidays or drink lol.

I would be looking for a budget option here with perhaps two phones but wireless like ss has asked.
I already have a wireless router with available ports so would just need to know what type of phones and software would be suitable to use with VM. I too would want this system to run without needing the computer on.

I'd be interested in the types of costs for people to call this phone from a normal landline

On Ebay the routers with built in PAP2's go cheaply (although I have never used one).
Does not matter which ISP providing they do not block VOIP (not aware of any in the UK that do).
As for incoming calls read the FAQ (hint)
Sipgate will give you a normal incoming landline number so call charges are no different. Problem with a PAP2 is that it cannot handle two accounts i.e. one for incoming (sipgate) and one for cheap outgoing (Finarea).
I do not know if the Gigaset will - I am also tight hence using ordinary cordless phones.

Wireless SIP is not that easy as there "was" no real standard and if you do not priorize the traffic you are buggered.

New Routers now support WMM (Wireless Multi Media) and Voice is priorized to be sure that no packets are dropped.

Usual home routers only support 2.4Ghz and that band is cluttered with other stuff like bluetooth etc so more professional solutions use dual band routers with 2.4 and 5 Ghz.

5 is then used for Voice and 2.4 for Data

Snom manufacture DECT Devices or Siemens Gigaset offers Devices were you can keep your existing Landline and just choose via Least Cost Routing to make the call either via the Internet or the Landline.

I personally prefer the more non direct approach an utilize a AVM Fritz!Fon Wlan at home.

At present the router Part and the Wireless is turned off and the device just "sits" in the network like any other PC.

Due the fact that the Box runs Linux you can actually run Asterisk on it and blow it into a full SIP Server.

In it's standard the AVM Fritz!Fon for example is fully sufficient as you can register up to 10 different or same SIP Providers and program Least Cost Routing in order for Incomin or Outgoing calls either to only ring on vertain phones and utilize a mix of Landline or Internet for calls.

Ideal if you have young teenagres physically attached to phones as soon as they come home from school... No longer being the switchboard for them saves you going bald to soon ;-)

Good thing with the Fritz!Fon or any other of the AVM Devices is to still use your original Phone Line + gaining either 2 or more Extensions so you can still have a seperate Line for your Kids or even a fax.

Works fine at my house even with Sky connected for their "test" calls home...

@pt-1
I hate you
Looks like I will have to buy a new toy to play with.
I assume you cant have FreePBX installed on the Fritzbox so configuration is not that easy
Is the Fritzbox in English?
What about call records and VoiceMail?
I want to create a hardware voip section (in the future), so having a post on Fritzbox products / functions / availability would be very beneficial.

--------------
No sooner had I asked, and pt-1 had uploaded an FAQ - thanks again
