Thumbs up Using multiple accounts on any sip device

This service is of use if you want to use more than one SIP provider although I may think of more uses in the future....

I have been registered with this company since I started with SIP.
The thing was in the early days I could not see why I would want to use it !!

After reading mrdude's post on updating the PAP2 easily, I pulled out a PAP2 box that I previously flashed to sipura software and saw that it still had the old mysipswitch account details in it.

So I decided to have a play..... (it was quiet on ukcvs)

Mysipswitch.com does what its name suggests i.e. it provides a sip account switching service. You register with them (it is free), they provide sip settings for their service which are entered into your ATA/Phone.

Via their website enter account details for (in my case) voipstunt and sipgate.

Dialing from your ATA/Phone and prefixing *1 gives provider1 account and *2 gives you provider2. If a call comes in on the sipgate number the phone rings as normal

Through the site you have the capability of creating your dialplan (even uses asterisk configs) so choose which provider to use based on the numbers called (LCR).

In my initial tests the call quality was fine and no noticeable delays when calling via mysipswitch to my sipgate number and into the asterisk pabx

I love free services

--- Update

Have been trying for a while to get things working on myswitch but when you are new to something you never suspect that the server has a problem !!!

There is now a second myswitch service available in the amazon cloud which does the same thing

Read the thread at myswitch for more info.

Hi Mike,

That's a great link thanks!
Apart from the Mysipswitch.com being probably easier to set up - what are the advantages of using Asterisk rather than mysipswitch? I mean, I started to install Asterisk (Didn't go very far apart from a easy aptitude install lol!) and I can see that you can use it as an answer machine? What else can Asterisk do that mysipswitch can't?

Cheers

Hi Freddy

Asterisk (with freepbx) is so flexible that you can do pretty much anything - how about asterisk reading out your emails, asterisk ringing your mobile back so you can make cheap calls, asterisk reading back the weather or rss feeds, voicemail sent as an email, fax received and sent as a pdf etc etc.

Setting up Asterisk can be as simple or complex as you want, and I am very happy to help. The key is using freepbx - alternatively install trixbox or pbxinaflash which already have everything installed for you.

Myswitch is really for a 'extension' which you can control where calls go to and also receive calls on.

For a home user I would think it could provide most peoples functionality.

The key point is Asterisk is for many and myswitch is really for one.

Guys,

the Fritz!Box let's you choose the SIP provider or the landline via a *xxx code manually if like or just uses the Least Cost Routing.

The very latest Models also support Emails&Rss on Handset,MediaServer so much more..

I shall post my stuff soon but am snowed under at the moment..

you can alse make it a VPN Server etc...

@Mike - OK, I'll try to play with asterisk then.
I didn't install a GUI on my Ubuntu machine, but I installed a webmin module for Asterisk so hopefully between this and some manual setting up, I should be OK!

@Pt - Can't afford it mate (come on, admit you have some shares with them lol)! The least cost routing looks interesting though (as pretty much everything else you already posted on that tbh!)

@FreddyFr0g
Freepbx is a web interface for configuring Asterisk, so just accessed via your browser
Was not aware of a webmin app for Asterisk, would assume config via it would break freepbx so be careful.

@pt1
Must admit my finger was hovering on ebay for a 7240. I like the idea of integrated dect, voip, adsl (and possibly asterisk) but have everything already all be it via seperate devices. Main reason to buy would be to play, save electricity and get more features. Agreed I could play, and yes it would save electricity.... but it would not give me the flexability and features that I currently have with Asterisk/Freepbx.

I have bought before (Bose Zenega) from your recommendations so would certainly not wish to put anyone off from buying a fritzbox. If we were able to build up a group of users with experience of these in the UK, I would buy one in a flash.

So keep on plugging the box and lets hope us Brits can get ourselves together after all that was how the dbox got started over here

@all,

Just look for a Fritz!Box Wlan or the Fritz!Box Wlan 7050 as they should be Dirt Cheap on German Ebay.

I am snowed under at work at present due coleagues holiday so I can't find the time to Upload what I already collected on Screenshots.
Next week in the Vatherland working so won't have time for that either but should try to squeeze in sometime

Did not realise that it is possible to create extensions at myswitch. You build your own PABX where all extensions share the same dial plan.

The interface and programming language is cryptic and if I wanted extensions I would use Asterisk - either my own or use pbxes.com who provide a free small system.

I have also spent the day playing with the site, and could not get things working even though it was a very simple set-up. The problem was the myswitch server was down

Apparently there is another free myswitch server in the Amazon cloud, more details
in the thread at myswitch.

Reading through their forum, there have been (as with pbxes.com) many problems with Betamax and their FUP (Fair Use Policy). By using myswitch/pbxes, you use their IP address and this is combined with anyone else using Betamax. So Betamax say you have used more than 300 minutes and charge

There are discussions of ways around this e.g. use voxalot or try mangling the sip header messages. Again this is just complicated and for the average home voip user it is probably better to try other solutions

So 3 from me, bet pt-1 is as fritz!box is looking more and more attractive
