Default PAP2 No Ring Tone

Totally out of the blue, I no longer get a ringing tone when making a call out.

Just tried it by phoning my VM landline, and that rings fine- but total silence in the voip handset.

I seem to remember something about changing ringing tones from continental to UK style, but I'm boogered if I can find this in the PAP2's web I/F config. Can someone point me in the right direction for me to try and get the ringing tone back, please?

Cheers- AL

Hi AL

I assume your calls when connected are working i.e. both way audio?
Do you have a backup copy of your PAP2 config?

Suppose the easiest way to debug the problem would be to try the PC application with the PAP2 disconnected and make a few test calls.

Ring tone can be provided by the PAP2 or it could be provided by the voip service. From what I remember the ring is normally provided by the provider (betamax). If you think about it, when calling another country you hear the other countries RT instead of ours.

The PAP2 ring options are under the Advanced view then Regional settings.

You could reset your box back to default and re-input your voip settings, although I doubt this will help.

Thanks for responding, Mike- and it's good to see that you're still floating around, m8!

I think you're right, and that the lack of ringing tone issue was a temporary glitch with voipstunt. Everything seems to be working properly again now. In fact, wifey is on the phone to our daughter in France as I write, and yes- she heard the French ringing tone before the call was answered.

But to answer your question- while this problem persisted, we heard no ring tone, but the called party heard their end ringing, and on pick-up, normal two-way voice communication took place.

All the best, Mike! AL

Glad it was temporary AL.

I use voipstunt through my PABX so lack of RT may be masked. If voipstunt signal that they are providing RT then the call is switched through, if no signal the PABX provides the RT.

I would assume the same functionality in the PAP2.

The RT settings in the PAP2 are also used if you are making direct sip to sip calls where no exchange is used.

Yes I am still around and happy to help with voip.

My latest PABX build has skype integrated so now I can receive and make calls over skype or betamax.

Yes, we have Skype on the XP system, (with webcam / integrated mic) and I must say that this has been a godsend since our Daughter moved to SW France.

Much as the missus loves talking to her on the voipphone (Siemens dect C475 twinset), it's great when they can see each other too! Especially when our young granddaughter appears as well... Call quality is superb, both audio and video.

I take it your new skype/voip pabx does skype video calls too?

Cheers- AL
