just upgraded the WII to ver 4.0E then soft-modded it, easy peasy, even for me
5 or 6 steps and i was playing backups (of my orginal disc's of course) no opening or soldering LOL WHOO HOO will put the file on my site if any one wants them ![]() kids are happy chappys now just as an added note, also using an ext hdd for run the back up games to save scratch disc's LOL now to some of u this might be old hat, but for me this is brill LOL LOL LOL

Running backups from a USB drive is sweet aint it! ^_^ Plus you get better loading times that way too.

I can confirm that brawl works fine from the USB HDD. ^_^ doesn't work with normal softmod from the disc drive though. :-)
Also I have a utility that lets you copy wii games on your PC (like from an iso file) to the usb HDD if you want me to pm you a linky to it. ^_^ |

what kind of discs do Wii's use? how are they backed up?

They are just DVDs, although DVD-R's are usually read at 3x speed instead of the normal 6x speed when softmodded as the drive sees it as a DVD rather than a Wii-DVD. Hardmodded systems will read them at the full 6x speed like it was a propper Wii disc.
They are usually backed up using a soft or hard modded system with the use of homebrew. Although there are a couple of PC DVD drives which can read direct from Wii discs though. With the disc backed up, you can burn it to a DVD-R (don't use +R as Wii's don't like them, lol). |
