I'm looking to buy an xbox360 (fed up with the wii) and just wondering if I should get a cheap 2nd hand one from cash converters or buy one of the new ones.

What's the main differences and can the new ones be chipped yet?

The newer slim consoles that are on the market now cannot be flashed straight out of the box "yet!" They will be soon all you can do with the newer consoles is take the key off the drive and then flash another older lite on drive and use that. The older consoles can all be flashed but some of them are harder than others to do. If you are planning on going on xbox live i wouldnt bother flashing the drive as at some point you WILL get banned whatever anyone says lol If you are looking for a old model and flashing that try and make sure you get a jasper model chich is a different chip set which is supposed to be immune from the 3 red lights that the older consoles are famous for.

If your playing online no modding at all and all the consoles are good for that but the new slim models are alot quieter as the gpu and cpu are on the same chip and the fans are alot quieter. If you think about it if you mod the drive on it and play 4 games that you have "cough" backed up "cough" then you have covered the cost of a new 360 if you get banned lol and you still have the console to sell so modding the drive is worth it but the risks are high. Checking all the "cough backed up games through abgx before playing them is the best way to be as safe as you can while playing backed up games but its not 100% it never will be.
