Default [XBMC] BBC iPlayer finally working

Hi all,

Johnsto has from the beginning been very eager to get the iPlayer working with XBMC.

Due the fact that the BBC kept changing the way they stream the shows to the end User Johnsto had to keep changing his "script" to suit the new requierements.

At the beginning he downloaded the show rather than streaming but lately the BBC blocked this so the only way to go forward was RTMP.

This is a streaming protocoll that had been implemented into the XBMC Code but only for the new Versions for Windows, MAC and Linux.

The "old" Xbox did not support it fully to be used by the iPlayer.

Thanks to a User called Frosty the "old" Xbox now supports RTMP: http://xbmc.org/trac/ticket/4905

The best releases you can normally get are from T3ch but a later bugfix for RTMP has not yet been included in the standard SVN so no T3ch built at present supports the iPlayer.

Help came in the form of DigiNews as he posted this site: http://mse360.com/new.php?search=XBM...thebest=Search! <- The ! is part of the URL !!!

Download the so called "Bless" release of XBMC including the latest Patch from here: http://vmosk.com/xbmc/

You find the latest Version of the iPlayer for all Platforms here: http://xbmc-iplayer.googlecode.com/s...yer-plugin.zip

HOW TO INSTALL:

Normally on a Softmodded or chipped Xbox you have in the C: Directory 2 files.

In my case they are called evoxdash.xbe and evoxdash.cfg

The XBMC is normally installed within e:\apps\xbmc

Download above iPlayer and the Bless release and unpack them both on your PC.

FTP to your Xbox
Create a new directory called: e:\apps\newxbmc and copy the bless release of the XBMC into that directory.

Delete the iPlayer directory within e:\apps\newxbmc\plugins\video and copy the new iPlayer into that directory

Download the evoxdash.cfg on to your pc and open it with notepad anc change the line e:\apps\xbmc into e:\apps\newxbmc

Transfer the File back on your c:\ drive and overwrite the existing one

HINT: Using Filezilla as your FTP Client will let you edit the file without copying first. Just right click on it whilst you browse the C Drive of your Xbox and edit the file and then save it. After this Filezilla ask's if you want to upload the updated file.

All Files mentioned on your Xbox might be called differently depending on your BIOS or Softmod.

Original iPlayer discussion is here: http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27063

IMPORTANT: The iPlayer is no longer a script ! This is now a Plugin !

EXTRA:

As explained above you can run XBMC now on Linux, Mac, MacTV and Windows.

The latest one is called LIVE and it is a boot CD that runs on any PC without installing XBMC. Just boot your machine with that CD and have XBMC running ;-)

LIVE Version here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/xbm...1&big_mirror=0

Above can even installed on a USB stick but I have not yet done so.

They are also working on a BOOT via LAN Version.
